Self-Spec: An Analysis of a Sticky Wicket
Re: Self-Spec: An Analysis of a Sticky Wicket
I felt like I should post this, not just to make sure I was playing within the rules, but to be a reference for other players who will think someone is hacking because they use this glitch. When it was brought up the other night some people had no clue what we were talking about and I think it'd be better for everyone if they understood what it is and how it's used. Whether it's used or not, it's only fair people know what it is and how to do it if they want to.
Re: Self-Spec: An Analysis of a Sticky Wicket
Yeah that'd be nice in a perfect world vic, but unfortunately the people complaining about it probably don't check the forums either lol.

Re: Self-Spec: An Analysis of a Sticky Wicket
Good post, vicodin. I don't do this (not intentionally at least) but have no issues with people using it. Back in our mohaa ladder in Chile, people used it a lot, but with shotguns, which makes it even a bigger advantage, since with sniper you at least have to move the crosshair and aim with relative precision, whereas with the shotgun you just quickly aim and shot anywhere and get the kill, especially in narrow spaces.

Hi Vic,
Good post and thanks for bringing this up, here is my opinion (and mine only)
Firstly, for those that are unsure.
It is not 3rd person (although can be misinterpreted when watching someone) nor is it glitching
I believe this has ruined the game on some servers and is not how the game was meant to be played
For some of us (like myself) I cannot do this if I tried (unless I set a suitable resolution for widescreen)
I am also happy to say this annoys me, we have kicked many for using it (mainly due to thinking it was 3rd person)
By allowing it, we cant see who is or isn't using 3rd person
I also believe it is unethical, I would take a stance on it to make sure the gaming is fair and reasonable for all
I think this is one for the admin forums, however please continue to express your opinions here

Re: Self-Spec: An Analysis of a Sticky Wicket
My 2 cents.
It's a glitch rather than cheating, so it's more a question of ethics and "unsporting behaviour" in a way.
So as a result people were allowed to do it in all the main leagues etc. However, for me it also is one of the main things that ruined original MOHAA and is extremely tedious and dull to watch.
Clan wars went from skilled games, to people self speccing with MG and popping out and getting instant kills. It also lead to a rise in people actually hacking in order to combat self spec.
Also, it was a reason why I always preferred default over realism as you stood no chance if someone popped out and put some STG in your face. At least in default you had an albeit slim chance to beat the nerd sitting there glitching pixels.
Really enjoy the fact that the server does not allow it, hope it stays that way!

Re: Self-Spec: An Analysis of a Sticky Wicket
Glad to hear so much feedback. I'm really 50/50 on the issue and I hope I presented a fair case on either side of it. I totally agree that all weps realism with self-spec is crap. I think with snipers it's a bit different but either way I'm fine with whatever is decided by those in charge. I don't think there is a huge issue in terms of differentiating self-spec from 3rd person. Often a self-speccer with fall into the glitch once he knows the enemy is out. 3rd person makes glitching impossible. Also 3rd person can be used to see around obstacles from any direction whereas self-spec can only be used to peak around a corner while leaning left.

I don't really see what's wrong with it, if my laptop screen can work with it anyone can do it but I suppose it does make watching for 3rd person more difficult and is a little cheap but idc either way I only do it in t1 that I notice so lol so that's fine :p
