Virustotal doesn't tell anything so don't rely on that. It is only a static analysis which means nothing.
Why would an anti cheat application be interested in what version of OS i am running?
IMO, this is enough for people to get them feel skeptical.
Alphamac update says it's a virus.
Re: Alphamac update says it's a virus.
its in my experience that people generally complain when they dont want it
Like any good anticheat, it needs more info than that of whats in your mohaa... recently picking up a dll injector ... is proof of that
I am all for it, nothing to hide, nothing to be concerned about

That is not necessarily true. I have nothing to hide too but that doesn't mean i have to trust an application from an unknown author which always stays connected to a web server and have to exclude it from my antivirus too. Perhaps you don't have valuable information on the computer you are playing with but i am sure many others do.

Exaclty. P4 made a anticheat, and hacked peoples computers with it. No reason it can't happen again.Lostin wrote:That is not necessarily true. Feel like you didn't finish that thought, because of course people complain about stuff they don't want to do. You may trust what anyone says on the internet but most people don't because that's how you can mess your stuff up. Seems like you're saying anyone who doesn't trust the anticheat may in fact be a cheater. Probably you will say you are not saying that, but if you are, that is bs. Got nothing to hide mohaa wise, but would like to hide my bank information or not let my pc be used as a hop for some nefarious deeds. That's what we are concerned about. It's basically a choice of risk having legal repercussions and a virus fucking up your pc or just be done with mohaa. Which I've considered and probably will from time to time while this program makes me feel unsafe.Tro wrote:its in my experience that people generally complain when they dont want it

That statement is all it is, i.e. in general ... about anything .. people will complain if they dont want it .... no mention of what/why/how/who etc
If I thought someone was cheating on the server, I would kick without a second thought
With mohaa, the anticheat, I have spoken with the developer a number of times and you can too
I have no concerns

I don't think talking with him would work. I would of had to of known him well and way before he started the anticheat to know if he would do anything malicious. But all I can do is take your word for it. I'm just saying, it is not irrational to distrust this program. I'm 70 percent sure it probably is safe, but that's not 100 percent is though. Download something from logitech or windows, I'm 99 percent sure it's safe, well lets go with 98 percent if we all remember the microsoft zune incident. Even a company as big as microsoft made nice paper weights of the mp3 players that got the firmware update. I'm sure the worst he can do is accidentally crash someones pc, but still not irrational to know of the alternatives and make that choice for your own pc.

Ryback isn't P4. Still, good to be cautious about what you're downloading. If you have concerns though, there's a whole community of developers at X-Null who would be happy to chat/vouch for Ryback's character!

Just curious SG do you guys run alphamac or any other anti-cheat?

Nope. Just the reborn patch. In the past we were running CI, and later AutoKick (circa 2008-2012), but when you decentralize your ban list it's such a chore to keep records up to date. Even worse, if you get two computers running CI at the same time your server feels the pain. Reborn did a great job of re-centralizing the ban list. Coupled with a custom RCON tool, we've never had the need for anything else.
RE Alphamac: I've read all of Ryback's notes during his development process, and the posts about how easily it can be manipulated make me not want to invest any time into implementing it.
Our servers are password protected, so we only play with the same group of 30 clan members that we've been playing with for 10 years now. It's seldom we have any new players request to join our servers. Even screenshots can be manipulated, so it's really just the wild west when it comes to admining a server.

Yeah, I'm not sure which posts you are talking about but I saw one about how anyone with programming knowledge could easily fool the program. No anticheat is perfect but yeah this one sub par along all the other mohaa anticheats compared to some modern day game anti cheats which in all fairness suck as well but definitely create a market for people to make hacks that can bypass them. I'll just take your word for it that hes an alright guy. But like he said himself, he can't make a good anticheat alone and I don't see that changing. So really, you can just catch the people who are stupid or fail at trying to bypass the anticheat. Same as always.
