Agreed. An fps faster than your moniter can handle is pointless. Onr possible exception is for video recording.Illuminaughty wrote:just a quick question in regards to the fps some people are getting, up to 600+? I read somewhere that fps should match your monitor refresh rate, and going beyond that is not doing much. You can get monitors that have a 240hz refresh rate which equates into 240 fps if capped to the monitor's refresh rate, as well higher hz/fps is supposed to reduce tearing. As a result, I cap mine at 75 frames which is good and I don't think my eyes would notice much beyond that. I am only going by something G3m had said long ago on this, and I may have heard him wrong lol so anything you guys know on this? Info is appreciated thanks.

Having the same number of fps as hz in your monitor is NOT the same as having vsync (which keeps the number of fps the same as the monitor refresh rate, AND synchronizes them). So, if you have 75fps and 75hz but NOT vscync, it doesn't prevent tearing, etc. If you activate vsync in your video card options, then you'll have 75hz and 75fps perfectly synchronized. The downside? It creates input lag, —hard to notice sometimes, but it is there, which is why many people do not use vsync.Illuminaughty wrote:just a quick question in regards to the fps some people are getting, up to 600+? In other words:
com_maxfps 75 (or whatever your refresh rate is) <-------- Doesn't do anything
videocard options > activate vscync <--------------------------- Will lock your fps at your monitor refresh rate, and WILL make a huge difference (smoother, but input lag).
About having lots of fps or not, it is true, above monitor refresh rate it doesn't do much. In fact, when you have too many fps (in mohaa at least), there is a bug that makes the mouse unresponsive. I have also heard that too many fps makes input lag better, but I am not really sure about that.
