An old MoH:AA Frag Movie of mine

Post by dckx »

Hi guys, I just wanted to share with you an old mohaa frag movie I recorded on July, 2006. It took place during a Lanparty in Santiago, Chile. It was the largest mohaa Lanparty we managed to organize (600 mohaa players, more or less), so it was a rather important event. I recorded four games during the first night of official scrims, and this is what came out. Two disclaimers: 1) The demo gets more interesting as it gets closer to the end; 2) Youtube removed the song I uploaded the video with, so now it has a rather shitty tune. Anyway, here it is:

Date: July 2006
Location: Santiago, Chile.
Duration: 4:34
Info: Frags from 4 consecutive official games that took place the first night of the tournament.

Now, just to explain some things a little further. In Chile, from 2003 to 2010 approximately, we had what I think probably was the larger mohaa community worldwide... +5000 players and more than 300 active clans, in an impressively active ladder system. Our scrims were as follows:

100% default mohaa
No custom maps, skins, mods, etc.
DMW Anticheat
5 vs 5
2 maps (each team playing allies and axis on both maps)
Roundlimit 3:00
Timelimit 15:00
Fraglimit 0
All weapons

Having fraglimit 0 meant that in a map like hunt, you could get a 17-0 score, while in a map like lolv2_14 you would get a 6-0 at most. So playing with timelimit rather than fraglimit made the game, in my opinion, more strategic, because rushing some rounds could really have a large impact in the final score. Similarly, if you played one side of the map as axis, for instance, then you could decide whether it was better to rush or camp, depending on the first side's result. Therefore, defining what side to play first and other related things was very important.

Playing scrims with all weapons and 100% default (no CKR) meant that our scrims usually featured a lot of people using shotgun, so the game pace was pretty fast, often with a lot of rush. In a map like v2, a team would have 1 sniper and 4 shotguns, or perhaps 1 sniper, 3 shotguns and 1 MG. In a map like Renan, a team would have 3 snipers and 2 shotguns, or 3 snipers, 1 shotgun and 1 MG. Nades were a fundamental part of the game (each player carried two of them), so we learned many many nades in most maps, especially hunt, renan, bridge and st.lo.

I'm just sharing this because I always felt like sharing how our mohaa community as, and because I have always been intrigued about how things were here 5 or 10 years ago. I'm also often surprised by how different the game settings are here (only sniper, slower game, etc.).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video.

PS: If this fits better in Video Sharing or MOHAA, please move it there. I jjust thought it could open an interesting conversation about mohaa in general.

Looks like some good shooting to me. Saw a lot of maps that we have in rotation right now actually. Cool vid/post.

We've been scrimming a bit lately DC. Get in on one some time!
May the odds be ever in your favor.

Thanks, guys. This video is very old, and I always wanted to do a new one before I "quit" playing in 2010 or so. I have many dm3, some from other lanparties, and others from regular scrims... Now that I'm done with school, I might try to put something more interesting together... with better a/v quality and better edition.
